# No-Cook Marshmallow Playdough
> Mix 1/4 cup of marshmallow creme with a few drops of gel food color and 1/3 cup of cornstarch, then knead into a soft, almost stretchy playdough. It takes prints and cuts well and is taste-safe if accidentally mouthed.

- Ages: 2–6 yrs · Difficulty: easy · Mess: medium
- Time: prep 15 min, activity 30 min
- Works for: one-on-one, small group, whole class · one batch serves about 1 kids
- Skills: sensory-exploration, fine-motor, scissor-skills, colors
- Cautions: corn, food-dye, ingestion-risk

## Materials (one batch)
- 0.25 cup Marshmallow creme
- 0.33 cup Cornstarch
- Gel food coloring
- 1 tbsp Oil (optional) (household)
- 1 piece Microwave-safe mixing bowl (household)
- 1 piece Spoon (household)
- Playdough tools (kid scissors, cutters, stampers, small tart tins)

## Safety
- Adult does the optional 10-second microwave step. Stir the creme and check that it isn't hot before kids touch it.
- Taste-safe, not a snack: the ingredients are edible, so an accidental taste is no cause for panic, but don't let kids eat it. It is mostly sugar and cornstarch.
- Check the marshmallow creme label for allergens. Some brands may contain egg white.
- Supervise playdough play at all times, especially with toddlers who mouth things.
- Gel food color can stain hands and surfaces.

## Before you start
- Check the marshmallow creme label for allergens before the session.
- Decide how many colors you want. Each 1/4 cup batch makes one color.

## Steps
1. Spoon 1/4 cup of marshmallow creme into a bowl.
2. Adult: microwave the creme for about 10 seconds to make it fluffy, then stir and check it isn't hot.
3. Add a few drops of gel food coloring and stir it in.
4. Add 1/3 cup of cornstarch to the colored creme.
5. Mix and knead until the dough balls up. It's super sticky at first. Add 1 tbsp of oil if you want it to come together easier.
6. If it's still sticky, knead in a little more cornstarch. Don't overdo it, or the dough gets crumbly and hard.
7. Repeat with a new color for each batch, then line up the dough balls and set out the playdough tools.
8. Roll, squish, pinch and press prints into the dough.
9. Cut the dough with playdough scissors and cutters.

## Tips
- Keep kneading even when it's super sticky. It does ball up.
- Go easy on extra cornstarch. Too much makes the dough crumbly and hard instead of soft and squishy.
- The marshmallow playdough takes markings and printing very well.
- It's soft and almost stretchy. My kids loved kneading and cutting.
- Just like playdough, it can be used to practice scissor skills.
- For a marbled look, go easy on the kneading and mixing after adding your red color.

**Edible Playdough Recipe : No Cook Marshmallow Playdough** Two of our reader- favorite play recipes are edible play recipes. Our [**edible water beads**](https://www.funlittles.com/sensory-activities-edible-water-beads/) (rather taste-safe) and our [**edible slime recipe**](https://www.funlittles.com/sensory-activities-for-kids-1-ingredient-edible-slime-recipe/). While we loved our chilled play dough recipe, I think this no-cook marshmallow play dough has become our well-loved [**cornstarch**](https://www.funlittles.com/tag/cornstarch/) based play dough recipe. Before I continue let me tell you that the first time I saw marshmallow being used to create play dough was on My Buddies and I. Check out the original **marshmallow dough recipe** that started it all! Since I love a good no-cook recipe, I wanted to try to recreate this recipe without a stove! It was quite simple with a jar of marshmallow creme.

{ [***all playdough recipes here***](https://www.funlittles.com/category/play-doh/)} Grab your **[Marshmallow Creme](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I8GANE6/?tag=blmemo-20)** jar. Add 1/4 cup of creme in a bowl. I also take the extra step of slightly microwaving it ( 10 seconds) to completely make it fluffy. After adding the creme add a few drops of gel food coloring. To the now colored marshmallow creme add 1/3 cup of cornstarch
Yes this part is super sticky. Keep kneading and mixing until you the dough all balled up. Add 1 tbsp of oil if you prefer to make it come together easier. If your dough is still sticky I would add more cornstarch. But make sure you don't overdo this part since the dough will more crumbly and hard and not soft and squishy. Line up your edible playdough and set out the usual playdough tools. The marshmallow playdough takes markings and printing very well. You can roll, squish and pinch it too! It is soft and almost stretchy.

My kids loved kneading and cutting. They did some printing too. I can see how this dough just like playdough can be used to practice scissor skills. Best part, if the kids decide to do a taste test, you don't have to panic since you know that the ingredients are all edible and taste-safe!

We even tried a marbled version to make this gorgeous candy cane with our playdough recipe. Just go easy on the kneading and mixing after adding your red color you will get a marbled look.
