You know we love Christmas crafts with jingle bells. We have used those fun supplies in plenty of crafts and the recent one being our cute and easy Jingle Bells Car ornament.

Today I welcome Dhiyana from Sparkling Buds to share a cute kids craft using pipe cleaners and jingle bells. She shares easy kids crafts, art projects and printables on her site. Please do check out her recent Christmas Wreath printing art project – such a clever idea.

Hello all, I am happy to meet you all in Kids Play Box.

I am here to share a simple craft which made my daughter happy. When she was at her preschool, I made her this beautiful bracelet out of pipe cleaner. I surprised her when she came home. She was so happy and she was wearing the entire day. So I believe your beloved ones too will love this beautiful pipe cleaner beads bracelet like how my daughter did.

Materials needed {affiliate links}

Sparkly Chenille Stems

Jingle bells

Pencil or some object to roll the pipe cleaner to beads

Method

1. Start rolling the pipe cleaner around the pencil.

pipe-cleaner-craft-pencil

2. Remove the rolled pipe cleaner from the pencil. Slightly roll it with your fingers to maintain its round shape. Please make sure there is no sharp edge of pipe cleaner projecting out.

pipe-cleaner-craft-with-pencils

3. Continue Step 2 for all beads.

pipe-cleaner-beads

4. I made pipe cleaner beads in white and red color. Cut another pipe cleaner slightly larger than the length required for the bracelet. Start beading the beads. In between I added two bells to make it a little more festive.

5. After desired size is reached, join both the ends of the pipe cleaner. Again, please check that there is no sharp edge projecting out. The beautiful pipe cleaner beads bracelet is done! My daughter loved the bracelet. It literally took me 5 minutes to make this.

Make a merry Christmas tree with heart cutouts and turn this Christmas craft into a cute table topper for the holiday season or use it in pretend play. We are really excited to share this Christmas craft with you. Christmas is an exciting time for kids and adults alike. It’s the season of love,  joy, family, giving,  baking, entertaining, gifting and crafting. I like to make Christmas crafts that are easy for my 4 yr old to do and still have some fun and learning with it. Here we have a Christmas craft brimming with love and joy from our favorite material- paper roll. { Access all our paper roll crafts here}

For this Christmas Tree craft you will need the following:

Materials {affiliate links}

We cut out three sizes of hearts from green and red construction paper (trying to stick to Christmas theme ). Next step assemble all the crafting supplies you are going to need. If you have a Heart Punch use it. { Very handy for Valentine’s day Crafts}Lot of hearts to cut out. Ha!

christmas craft activity what you need- blogmemom

Since we did not have contact paper, we used a wide tape  and wound it around the kitchen roll, nice and tight, keeping the sticky side up. Cover 3/4ths of the roll, leaving some room to show the tree trunk.

christmas crafts activity with paper roll- blogmemom

To create the Christmas tree, pinch the hearts at the bottom and stick it to the tape.

christmas crafts activity for toddlers- blogmemom

We are continuing with the sizes and proportions theme. { Check out our Christmas Tree Puzzle Start with the small hearts on the top, medium hearts through the center and the large ones to the bottom. Big S loved to make more and we ended up making 2 more trees the following day. She made the hearts and needless to say how much of that tape got used !

And oh!, remember to make a cone shape and attach it to the top of the roll to create the “conical” effect.  To help it stand up so she could attach the cone , she came up with a creative way: she walked in with a small can of her playdoh and set the tree right in it.

christmas tree crafts - blogmemom

There mom, now you can take a picture “-  Guess my kid knows that the camera is part of crafting and learning these days !

christmas activity tree for kids - blogmemom

It is always interesting to see what sparks her interest and how creative she gets with it. Simple projects such as this one teaches kids an important mathematical concept which lays the foundation for all the learning to come over the years.

Well, once the trees were done , putting the ornaments was easy peasy! { Try our paper roll jingle car ornaments, jingle cup ornaments or even our simple star ornament}

Christmas Crafts for Kids : Jingle Cars Ornaments

Have you noticed that around the months of November and December even the most non-craftiest people are so inspired to make something? I have. Everyone is happy, inspired and excited to create fond memories of spending time with their children making goodies { either in the kitchen or in the living room with a glue gun} Christmas crafts making sessions brings families together. It has in our house.

Today we will show you a super simple snazzy cool ornament you can make with a humble paper roll. We did this Christmas craft oh- may be about 3 years ago but never got around posting it. Aren’t paper roll crafts the best? We loved our paper rolls jingle bells drop fine motor activity – perfect for the holiday season. We also love our Jingle Cups Ornament we did last year!

We are combining paper rolls and one other favorite material for this holiday season – Jingle Bells. You will not regret just purchasing a small stash of jingle bells for all kinds of fun Christmas crafts and activities. We have make sound soup sensory play and  jingle bells writing tray.

On to this Christmas ornament craft

Materials {affiliate links}

You need one of the first three types of paper. Even better- make 3 Jingle cars with all the 3 materials!

Cellophane Paper
Red Self- Adhesive Paper
Holiday Wrapping Paper
Snowflake Cutout Jingle Bells (Gold)
Craft Knife
LowTemp Mini Glue Gun
Red Paper
Gold Thread
Paper Rolls
Tape

You will need a paper roll and some red colored contact paper/cellophane paper/shiny wrapping paper. Contact paper is a sticky back paper that is primarily used to cover notebooks. But super creative people have found numerous ways to put those nifty things to use. Even we have used the contact paper in a few fun ways to create hands on play and learning environment for my kids. If you are lucky you will find these red colored paper at your local office supplies store. If not, there is always Amazon {link above}

Since we did not have red contact paper, we used red colored paper to cover the paper rolls and then we double wrapped with red cellophane paper to give this Christmas ornament a glossy look.

For the other paper roll, we used shiny Christmas themed wrapping paper. You see a pattern? All our Christmas crafts and ornaments have got to be shinny and glossy!

Note: We originally did this activity a good 3 years ago and my children were very much into Santa then and called these paper roll cars as Santa’s Flying Car. When we redid this activity, they were focussed only on the crafting part of it.

Please note that this Christmas Craft needs parental help since you will have to use a hot glue gun .

Instructions for making Jingle Cars Christmas Ornaments

Measure and outline the red contact paper and have the kids {or you can do it too} wrap the cellophane/wrapping paper paper around the paper roll. Tuck in the extras through the holes and tape the edges of the paper into the paper roll. If you are using contact paper, it makes the job a lot easier since the sticky side adheres to the paper roll very easily.

Then use a craft knife and neatly cut out a nice window for the car. Before cutting out, draw the window for extra precision. Once the window and the driver seat is carved out pop out the windshield for a more realistic effect.

crafts-for-christmas

Now to make this Christmas craft even more more snazzy, you add gold wheels. Yes! gold wheels and how do you do that you ask? You can find large jingle bells that are traditionally used as ornaments.

Get a glue gun and remove 4 bells from your 9 pack and attach them to the sides of the the car. Add gold stars stickers to give the jingle cars an even more festive look.

Here is a visual representation of this Christmas ornament making process.

 Fizzing Christmas Lights Art Project for Kids

Ever since we did out Kool-Aid fizzy art, the kids and I are on a arty science kick. { also see our pH strips red cabbage experiment} The kids aged 5 and 7 still enjoy all the baking soda and acid activities and we have done a plenty of them in the past.

Materials { affiliate links below}

I recommend checking out Apple Fizzing Art or our very first Kool – Aid Fizzing Art Project.

How to create Christmas Lights Fizzing Art

Using this wonderful Christmas Lights templates I cut out the lights on thick art paper. Do not use printer paper. I recommend card stock paper or watercolor paper for this project. {product links above}

  • In a small cup, add 2 TBSP of baking soda and and just enough water (  5 TBSP } to make a baking soda solution/paint.
  • Set out 5 containers and add 2 TBSP of Citric Acid
  • Add liquid watercolors or food colors to the Citric Acid
  • Add 6 TBSP of water and make a citric acid solution.
  • Set out paint brushes or pipettes { these will make more fizzes but will potential overflow}

materials

First have the child coat the lights you have cut out with the baking soda solution. Make sure you scoop a bit of the baking soda that has settled down in the solution on to the paper.

Then either using the brushes or pipettes the child picks up the colored citric acid solution and drops/gently taps on the baking soda solution.

fizzing-lights

The citric acid and the baking soda react and create the fizzes { release of carbon- di – oxide gas}

fizzing-art-making-christmas-lights

Continue and experiment with all the colors.

erupting-art-christmas-lights

While the pipettes generate a larger reaction, the reactions typically over flows and soaks the paper. So make sure you use heavy paper for this project. Alternatively you can simply use paint brushes for more controlled yet fun fizzes.

Let the Christmas lights dry.

Turkey Art Project for Thanksgiving : Using spray bottles and liquid watercolors

Set up:

Fill your mini spray bottles with diluted liquid watercolors.Either small spray bottles or even 2oz mist bottles are perfect for this project. Mix 2 TBSP of liquid watercolors + 4 TBSP of water in each bottle { one bottle per color}. Adjust the quantity according to your needs. I just added 1 TBSP of watercolors and just enough to get a good color. Scroll down and the 3rd picture has the entire amount I made for the project. We still have left over that we are going to use for another art project. You don’t need a lot and you WILL not be sorry that you purchased the amazing liquid watercolors linked above. The colors are simply stunning.

Place a high quality Watercolor Pad on your art space. Really, you need a super thick high quality watercolor paper. Go for a larger/Jumbo/XL variety since your turkey is wider.

Use a simple turkey feather pattern or template. I used this easy pattern to print and cut out my turkey feathers. The paper you use to print and cut out the turkey feathers also matters – you don’t want to use regular printer paper since it will immediately buckle up as soon as the liquid hits it. I used a little thicker art paper so that turkey feathers stay in place. If you don’t mind losing a sheet from your watercolor pad, take a sheet from that pad and use it to cut out your turkey feathers.

Alternatively you can also cut out the turkey feathers from a sheet of contact paper and stick it on the watercolor paper/pad  to ensure that the feathers do not move during the art project. That way you get cleaners feathers when you are done.

Now time to SPRAY!

Hold on to the feathers one by one and spray all around the feathers choosing one color at a time.

remove-paper-resist-on-turkey-art

Don’t make the same mistake my child did {lol} and NOT remove the feathers until the entire turkey art is done.

turkey-feathers-resist-art

Your turkey art project will look like this once all the feathers are sprayed over.

Hopefully the watercolors did not seep through. {If you use contact paper as feathers then you can be guaranteed that the water will not seep through as long as you stick it right}

There you have your turkey feathers resist art

Now time to turn that into a turkey with some brown construction paper, markers and googly eyes. I used this  turkey template for this turkey art project.

Christmas Crafts for Kids : Make Giant Christmas Trees

Christmas Tree Crafts don’t have to be mini versions. How about going big with this easy Christmas craft? Kids can have a go at this fun craft before you actually put up the tree for the season. Using a few craft supplies, you can satisfy your kid’s eagerness to decorate the tree.

How to make a giant Christmas tree and decorate it

Materials

  • White Poster Board
  • Clear Tape
  • Stapler
  • Acrylic Paint/Washable Paint
  • Peppermint Oil {optional}

Grand you $1 white poster board and start painting. All through the holiday season, I ALWAYS add peppermint oil to all our paint while we are doing fun Christmas art projects. Couple of years ago, we did these cute peppermint scented Christmas tree hats craft. We did the same for this project also { actually I think this craft had me get started with adding peppermint oil to paint I think. We did this project at least 3 years ago and ONLY now I’m getting around to making a post }

Back to the post, start painting your white poster with peppermint oil scented green paint and give it a good shake of white craft glitter. I found like that we liked acrylic paint much better than regular washable paint for this project since the peppermint oil smelled better mixed in with acrylic paint versus washable paint.

Once the paint completely dries, make a giant cone with the white poster board by folding and taping them at the edges. If you want to reinforce them even better, I would staple the bottom edges.

poster-board-christmas-tree

There, you made a giant Christmas tree that is already smelling like Christmas. Now set out all decorating supplies for your beautiful christmas tree. I had the following supplies for them

  • Tinsel Garlands
  • Pom Poms
  • Christmas Foam Stickers
  • White Glue

materials

At this time, the children took over the christmas craft and started decorating the tree. I set out the tree on window sill since the height worked out the best for the kids { 5&3 then}

They started cutting the tinsel garlands into smaller sizes and started wrapping them. They used clear tape to adhere the tinsel to the poster board Christmas tree.

My 3 year old needed some help to hold the tinsel garland and to tape them at the same time.

She also wanted more decorations and ended up gluing pom poms all around the tree’s base. Gotta love pom poms to make everything fun. Have you seen our toddler friendly Christmas wreath craft?

The kids can also add foam stickers and more pom poms on the Christmas tree

We are a vegetarian family and use a ton of lentils in our everyday cooking. I have a wide variety of them in many colors { orange, yellow, green, black, red haha!!} If you are interested take a look the assorted lentils link in the materials section. Lentils is one of our most important source of proteins  right after chick peas

I had an overflowing amount of lentils and inspiration struck and I set out this invitation to create pumpkins using lentils.

Since we will be using heavy materials like lentils I would suggest that the paper you use for this art project be as heavy as possible. Better yet, use a cut up cereal box or cardboard and glue the pumpkin cut outs on them so that the finished product is sturdy enough to hang or display.

Instructions for lentil pumpkins craft

Have the child glue over the pumpkin/Jack O’ Lantern except the eyes, nose and mouth. It’s a good time to NOT go easy on the glue since they have adhere the lentils. A thick coating of white glue should suffice. I had 2 cups of orange lentils and green lentils{not pictured} near by.

If you want more colors {black for the eyes} then you could take a look at these assorted lentils that has black lentils in their set.

The kids will gently pour the lentils or even scoop with spoons over the wet glue area.

Use the green lentils for the leaves and orange for the pumpkin itself.

If you have black lentils fill up the eyes, nose and mouth with them or simply fill them with black markers.

I purchased  these relatively inexpensive cork trivets which comes as a set of three along with this set of cork coasters which comes in a set of 24. Those 24 come in handy when the kids want to try out multiple designs. I love that I get 24 of them for a smaller price and that also means experimenting with them for a variety of kids crafts. The trivet is for the body and the coaster is for the head of the turkey.

We used a cork trivet for the body of the turkey. Divide the circle by sections by gently drawing lines.

paint-a-trivet-

For this turkey craft we used acrylic paints to fill in the sections. However you can also use our new favorite Solid Tempera Paint Sticks{ Kwik Stix} for low mess “paintless” painting method. Turkey craft made with these Kwik Stix is at the end of the post. Read more about this fabulous no mess solid tempera paint sticks on our Rainbow Initials Art post.

Now on to building! Build a Turkey – Turkey Craft for kids

Set out cork coasters, the painted trivet along with googly eyes and eyes, beak and feet cut from construction paper. Based on the age of the child doing this turkey craft,  you decide the extent to which the supervising adult needs to be involved. It’s a great fine motor and learning activity. Children can identify the parts of the turkey while gluing them on. On a side note, I see that these Peel and Stick Wiggle Eyes work great for crafts when you want to keep it quick and easy.

He was supposed to be posing cute according to my 7 year old. But we all know how he *really* looks like. Terrified about the Thanksgiving Day dinner.

This one is painted with Kwik Stix. Our mini turkey with the coaster for the body and colored paper for the head. I love that we got almost similar results with both the low mess solid paint and the regular acrylic paint. Trust me the colors are amazing. {just a poor light shot..:-( }
